Choose to Teach
Teaching music is meaningful work, but it isn’t always easy. Rehearsals, performances, budgets and student needs can make it hard to pause and recognize the difference you’re making. To help with that, the Music Achievement Council created Choose to Teach, a free video series for band directors, orchestra directors and music educators throughout their careers. Each short video features an experienced music educator sharing a personal story, a practical perspective or a word of encouragement — with insight on navigating setbacks, celebrating growth and building a rewarding career.
Share these videos with colleagues, use them to open conversations at department meetings or watch them on your own between rehearsals. The impact of great teaching reaches far beyond the notes students perform — and sometimes, you deserve the reminder too.

Explore Themes in the Series
- Remembering your purpose as a music educator
- Recognizing the lasting influence teachers have on students
- Finding encouragement during difficult seasons
- Asking for help and building a professional support system
- Reconnecting with the joy of teaching and making music
