The NAMM Foundation kicked off the school year with a SupportMusic Community Forum at McKeesport Area High School located just outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Richard R. Green Central Park School in Minneapolis, a VH1 Save The Music Foundation's Keys+Kids grant recipient, added a piano to their music program, thanks to a sponsorship from The NAMM Foundation.
After a week of debate, the Senate passed a bill to reauthorize the Elementary and Secondary Act by a margin of 81-17, which includes music and arts as core academic subjects.
A large majority believes that children should have opportunities to learn to play musical instruments as early as elementary school and that music and arts education are “extremely” or “very important.”
Playing music has been scientifically proven to benefit people of all ages—and, it’s fun to do. Adults who play an instrument—even if it’s just for fun—are able to reduce their stress and use the activity as an emotional outlet. Working adults reduce their chances of job “burnout.”
