Teaching Guitar Workshops
The Guitar & Accessories Marketing Association (GAMA) is comprised of manufacturers and distributors and promote greater access to learning and playing guitar. For over 20 years, The NAMM Foundation has partnered with GAMA and the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) to present Teaching Guitar Workshops across the U.S. In 2018, The NAMM Foundation grant to GAMA and its Teaching Guitar Workshop program was supported, in part, through donations to the Bill Collings Memorial Fund.
The NAMM Foundation’s Music Making Grant supports Teaching Guitar Workshops for 250-400 school music educators annually that provide tools to start or enhance school guitar and ukulele programs. As a lead funder of the program for 23 years, NAMM Foundation funding has directly supported over 4,000 teachers, who have in turn impacted over 1.5 million student musicians.
“The NAMM Foundation grant continues to support our mission. We go outside the usual markets and excite students, teachers, and hobbyists of all ages to get on a pathway of a becoming a lifelong musician,” says Brad Smith, GAMA President and Vice President - MI Products at Hal Leonard. “At GAMA we are lucky that we get to use a very cool instrument as that gateway experience. Receiving this grant motivates us to do our best and never slow down our efforts. We thank the NAMM Foundation for this support and the vote of confidence to keep doing what we do.”
