The NAMM Foundation has partnered with the Dallas Wind Symphony for eight years, bolstering their outreach efforts and sponsoring students to attend the Dallas Winds summer Band Camp.
In 2006, the Dallas Independent School District (DISD) and Dallas Wind Symphony partnered to establish a high-quality summer band experience for at-risk and underserved public school students. Over the past 12 years, the Dallas Winds Band Camp has grown into the largest urban summer band camp of its kind, serving over 600 middle and high school students. After a week of instruction from professional Dallas Wind Symphony musicians and top area conductors, students perform for family and friends at the Meyerson Symphony center, a truly special moment for these young musicians.
The NAMM Foundation’s grant also supports Dallas Winds’ School Band Education Enrichment program for all DISD fifth grade students along with scholarships for Dallas Winds summer camp. Through these programs, students are immersed in honing their skills, broaden their musical horizons, and are transformed by the power of music.
“We are proud to partner with the Dallas Independent School District. In the last 5 years, our combined efforts have increased band participation by 43% in an urban district that has a declining overall enrollment. Thanks to the NAMM foundation support we are expanding our reach annually,” shared Todd Toney, director of Education at Dallas Winds.
